Jr. FLL EXPO AT FROG FORCE FRENZY
Date: 11/16/19
Black frogs hosted the 3rd Annual Jr. FLL Expo at the Frog Force Frenzy event in Novi. We had a great time taking the teams around to various activities that we had planned for them. We also took them to the FLL demo and FTC competition so that they know what to expect in the next levels. Running the opening and closing ceremony was the best part especially writing the puns for the awards. |
FTC Kick off at Detroit Cristo Rey High School
Date: 09/07/19
On the Kickoff day for 2019 season, our team was invited to the kickoff organized by our FRC team Frog Force at Detroit Cristo Rey High School where more than 30 teams were in attendance. There were teams from Detroit, some of them sponsored by Detroit PAL and some by Detroit Public Schools, Novi, Troy and a few other cities. We were asked to conduct a Rookie coach workshop for these new teams. As a team we had worked on a rookie coach presentation which included topics such as what to expect on a competition day, match format, season time line, tips on alliance selection, Component's of a robot, best tools to use etc.We were asked a lot of questions after the presentation about the competition and the robot. |
We also ran three more sessions. One on Basics of Autodesk Fusion and one more on how to use Fusion for 3 D printing. It was very well attended . These sessions were run by our team mate Sanjith and moderated by Mr. Chen and Mr. Madan Raj from Autodesk who answered many questions from the attendees. The third session was on Vision processing using Vuforia. This was run by Sanjith Udupa along with our mentor Mr. Ravi Tapetta as moderator. This session was a houseful situation with standing room only in the room. Everybody wanted to explore advanced programming techniques. We showed them how we used it in our last season and once we the challenge was released, we realized that it was a very helpful session for this years challenge. A few of our team mates helped in the build room and guided the teams with the basic pushbot.
After the sessions, we joined the other teams to watch the kickoff video. We were really excited for this year's challenge, Skystone. After that we started inspecting the field that they had we took some measurements which we planned to use for planning until we received our field kit.

Volunteering at Spring Off-season FTC competition
Date: 05/12/19
Over the last season, we mentored 10 pre-rookie Detroit teams since January. We ran two workshops where we helped the teams by helping them build their very own Rover Ruckus robots and helped them program it. All the teams competed at the off-season Spring competition at Hamtramck with other teams. BFR members volunteered by running a help desk, inspection and mainly helped the teams with their inspections and then coming with a strategy for the matches. All the Detroit teams did pretty well. Overall it was a great day.
