Running the Frog Force Frenzy JR. FLL Expo
Date : 11/17/2018
The Jr. FLL Expo was a lot of fun! We started off the day with the opening ceremony, where we explained this year’s Jr. FLL challenge and the schedule for the day. Sai and Lexi were the Masters of Ceremony for the Opening ceremony. After the opening ceremony was done, all of the Black Frogs went to each of the activity rooms to lead the kids with different crafts and team building games. The three activities we had picked were, making frog puppets, a rocket craft and a fun toy, where kids tried keeping little foil sheets in the air using static electricity wands. Some of us had the assignment to take teams to different stations as per their schedule. The 13 teams went from station to station, spending fifteen minutes at each of them. They also met with the reviewers and presented their projects. When all the teams had participated in each and every activity, we took them around the FTC competition so they could see what it was like. We also showed them the FLL game and explained the next level up from Jr. FLL. The Masters of ceremony for the closing ceremony were Luca, Sanjith, Rishi and Brady where they announced the awards for the kids. We stood in the high five line along with the reviewers and high fived the teams as they came up on the stage to get their awards. All in all, it was an excellent day and we all learned something new about living on the moon and had a great time working with the teams! All the Jr. FLL kids also had a great time at our expo.

Volunteering at Spring Off season FTC competition
Date: 5/12/2018
Over the last season, 2017 -2018, we mentored 10 pre-rookie DPAL teams since January. We ran sessions to train the coaches as they were new to FIRST and coaching. We also ran workshops where we helped the teams by helping them build their very own Relic Recovery robots and helped them program it. All these teams competed at the Spring Offseason Competition at Canton with other teams. BFR members volunteered by running a help desk, inspection and also fulfilled other roles of field reset, match queuers, and score keepers. All the DPAL teams did great. Two of the DPAL teams, P3A Robotechs and Gompers, were finalists and P3A Robotechs also won the Judges award and UPSM Detroit Technologics won the Control award. Overall it was a great and satisfying day. |
