Visiting the CNC Labs at Schoolcraft College
Date: 08/19/19
At the CNC labs, we were first shown a video about how engineering had saved many people's lives by making them able to get custom prosthetics to help with sports and other activities. Then we moved to the computers where each of us had a CNC panel mode. Each of us designed a plate with our name on it. We then moved to the actual CNC machine and copied over the coordinates from our model to the machine. We then checked the design and then pressed the green button to start the machine. The Machine had a really fast spinning piece which then moved over the metal plate in the machine and went down and started drilling in lines. |
The instructor, Gene Keyes, then reminded us that we should turn on the coolant which would make sure that the heat from the friction wouldn’t break anything. After a minute or so the arm lifted up and the coolant stopped. We then opened the door and blew off any excess metal or coolant with a pressure hose. We now had a 4 inch by 1 inch piece of metal with our name engraved on it. We also made one that said Black Frogs Robotics on it so that we could maybe put it on our robot. We then waited for everyone to finish their name plate and then we all got gifted a cool skull made the same way we made our name plates. We also learned about different things which we can possibly design for our robot and get it CNC machined.
Training at Novi High School BY Frog Force
-Java Workshop
Date: 08/02/19
We attended four training sessions conducted at Novi High School by our High School Robotics Team, Frog Force. During the training they took us through some basic Java and the FTC SDK kit. Some of the main highlights of the training were : •Using sensors in Autonomous. •Control loop in Java •PID Control loop •Gyro for heading control We learned a lot and it was a very helpful training session. One of our team mates Sanjith helped out with the training session. |
